No lie, the only thing that broke me loose from it was losing internet at work.

So much that you couldn’t get away with these days. I love it. Thanks.

It’s the attention to detail that makes Avery cartoons really masterful at the one-shot visual gags. Chuck Jones is good for the seamless ongoing ballet of twistedness (before he got a swollen head), but only at his best can he cram things to the WTF/second rate of a good Tex Avery cut.

There’s a DVD out there of all the Droopy Dog cartoons that can be had - there are fewer Droopy cartoons than people realize. Well worth it, IMHO.

I discovered Kramer gifs last week and lost an hour of time. Thanks for furthering my addiction.

I’m reminded of when Cartoon Network had the Tex Avery show on weeknights.

The indigent wolf (never officially named) that went on to inspire Huckleberry Hound is one of the best incidental characters. He appears in only 3-4 cartoons total, though.
Sometimes referred to as Jubilo Wolf due to his constant whistling of
Kingdom Coming
... for whatever opaque reason.

You mean back before Cartoon Network stupided itself into obscurity, and required the creation of Boomerang, which then also largely stupided itself?

In a similar vein, there are 2 original Duck Dodgers in the 24th 1/2 Century cartoons, but they’re very very similar. One has him going to Planet X for “the shaving cream molecule” and the other for “yo-yo polish.”

To be fair, I liked a lot of their stuff up through the mid to late 2000s. The newer stuff and their reboots certainly have their issues, but on the bright side they’re bringing back Samurai Jack with Genndy Tartakovski at the helm, so that should be fantastic.
It was funny watching some of the older cartoons on Boomerang, but there was a lot of trash, too. the Pac Man cartoon, or “Wheelie and the Chopper Bunch” But I did love Johnny Quest.

Meow, man!
I love that guy. And thanks for the link to the tune. As soon as I saw him, I heard that tune in my head and didn’t know what it was called. You seem to be somewhat of a scholar on this topic.....

I come off as something of an “instant scholar” on anything I’ve bothered to look up - the perils of what you might call learning how to learn and learning how to express myself - so a lot of the time I don’t *really* have pre-existing knowledge on something and have just been off for five minutes to rummage.
That being said, I research a LOT of things off the cuff and a lot of it sticks around. I’ve known the info on the above for years because the interest came up.

That’s the thing about the Internet: somebody can ask a question and you can hit Wiki and have an educated answer in seconds. I confess to having done that once or twice with my Av History posts. It’s also easy to confirm something you already knew (or thought you knew).
